1.7 STUDY AREA

1.7.1 LOCATION AND SIZE

The study area is Enugu urban area, the present capital city of Enugu state. It is located approximately at latitude 06­0 301N and longitude 070 301E in the southern part of Nigeria. The study area is bounded in the North by Enugu North local government area, in the south by Nkanu-West local government area, in the East by Nkanu-East local government area, and the study area is in itself made up of Enugu North, Enugu East and Enugu South local government area. There is road network that connect or link to each of the urban areas in the state. See (fig.1) - (fig.9).

1.6 LIMITATION OF THE STUDY

Several constraints were encountered in the course of this research. The major constraint of this study is lack of data to represent the numbers of private Cars and Lorries that engaged in inter -urban transport. This is also coupled with the unavailable data for some public transport that load within and outside the motor parks and stations.

The major problem encountered was financial difficulty. This constraint hindered the fast movement of this project work. Also the cost of materials for production has gone up so high just like other goods and services. In addition high cost of transportation formed peak of financial constraints.

Another problem which hindered this work is time factor. The time given for this work is very limited to really carry out real research but in all the research was carried out successfully with all the necessary information gotten from reliable sources and internet.

1.5 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

It is the goal of this research to document the traffic flow between our urban centers in Enugu state. The evaluation of the transport problems facing our society is also a part of this goal, And also to improve the service and handling of passengers and freight with the help of our recommendations. This study will also reveal the state of the road within urban and how to improve on the state of the road, for better convenience to commuters.

Finally the knowledge of the study would useful in the planning of transport operation and co-ordination, safety and political, military and social purposes.
