- Indirect/non-point sources.
Direct/Point Sources: These are contaminants that enter directly into the
waterway. Examples are the discharges of sewage from factories, waste
water treatment plant and toxic chemicals discharges directly into water
bodies.
Indirect/Non-Point Sources: These contaminants enter the water supply from groundwater and the rain
water. The ground water which is polluted by agricultural runoff, which
contain chemical fertilizer, pesticides and waste disposal. The gaseous
emissions from refineries, factories, automobiles etc contaminate the
atmosphere (rain water).
