Important factors in Agriculture

Some numbers of factors are important in agriculture in Nigeria. They include the following:

Climate:

The climate of Nigeria is another factor to agriculture. The mean annual temperature is above 200c and temperate are adequate usually every where high in the country, the relative humidity is high. Rainfall is very high in Nigeria, in the South – Calabar receives a total rainfall of about 3020mm a year. In the East – Enugu receives a total rainfall of about 1750mm a year.

Population

Geographically in Nigeria population is rising faster than food production. One may say why food production don’t match population growth, is because our low level of technology but not it only also the physical environment too. Example the Sahel region experience drought problem and make food production low in the region and they find it very difficult to feed themselves. In this, one can say there is correlation between types of climate and vegetation.

Vegetation (Click here learn more about vegetation) and

Soil
Soil type and its moisture content determine vegetation growth. Also changes of soil type in some crops may occasionally have a sufficiently marked effect upon agricultural production. Examples cocoa, it is the soil type more than any other factor, mangrove trees prefer swampy soils, coconut trees grow well in sandy soils, palm trees like acid soils and rice like swampy soils.
