NIGERIA: GOVERNOR'S FORUM -CRISIS IN NIGERIA EDUCATION SECTOR
The APC's Governors
In the 2nd Progressive Governors Forum held by the APC Governors. A lecture topic were delivered "The crisis in Nigeria's education sector" by:
Ilyasu Ahmed of Bayero University,
Civil Society Icon Dr.Jibo Ibrahim,
Rotimi Ameachi Governor of River state and
Dr. Module Olateju- Educationist.
They discuss the papers in good details.
Governor Rotimi Amaechi give an inspiring speech by these:
1. Allocation of 28% of the state's budget on education
2. Over 90% of the education budget is on capital project Vs. average of 14% of federal government budget.
3. Recruitment of over 13,000 trained teachers into the public school system.
4. Introduction of community driven school management committees to oversee educational institutions.
5. 3,000 Students including 300 doing Ph.Ds and hundreds abroad studying Medicine, Engineering and Technology.
Meanwhile, the chairperson of the Progressive Governor's Forum, Governor Okorocha, give an announcement that:
1. APC Governors have donated N100 million to the victims of the Nyanya bombings to assist the families that lost their person in the tragedies.
2. The APC Governors would give assist to the Borno state government in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the schools burnt down by terrorism.
