THE ENVIRONMENT OF THE RURAL INHABITANTS



INTRODUCTION

The Geographers and environmentalists look at the rural environment as a source of resources and the inhabitants as a source of labour to urban. The study of the rural environment is basic to all human being due to origin because no man on earth who do not have a village.

The rural environment is made up of people, plants and animals living together. Before the introduction of machine, the rural inhabitants engage in primary activities like farming, fishing, hunting, forestry, grazing and tapping of palm wine etc. Life is very remote, silent but more secured in rural area. They are source of labour to urban, the rural environment provide raw - materials for industrial growth. It is with or without amenities like good pipe borne water, modern buildings, schools, hospitals, electricity, good roads and social interactions. Cinema hall, hotels and restaurants, video studio and disco halls are not available in rural area.

THE ENVIRONMENT

The environment of the rural inhabitants can be improve through; Infrastructure, Mechanize Farming Methods, Agricultural Extension Programme and Community Development Programme, Economic Change, Health and Education etc. The rural inhabitants depend on the environment for the provision of goods and services. Services that provide food, medicines and energy, and services that regulate such as water purification and irrigation. Environmental goods may values for time to time, the natural resources which is the power of the rural people, since some industries are located in their source of resources, which create the avenue for development and employment of the people and make the environment important. The poor people in the environment are expose to dangerous infection, such as insect - borne diseases, including malaria and cholera from unsafe water.
